The Collins Good Writing Guide front cover claims it as The Essential Guide to Good Writing. It is a packed and comprehensive resource full of useful information for anyone who needs to reference their work on occasion - and surely we're not all that good that we never need to do this?
At the times my brain fuddles me for whatever reason and I can't remember where to place my possessive or contraction apostrophes, this book comes in very handy for a recap. How I cringe when I see 'apple's for sale' - the famous grocer's apostrophe - so it's something I dread to do myself! But I'm sure I've made silly mistakes like this in the past.
Whether you are checking for common misspellings, the correct abbreviation or how to avoid grammatical error, I do really think this book is a very useful guide for any writer worth their salt. There is so much easy-to-access information in this one tome that it really is an inexpensive investment for your reference shelf.
If you're going to choose one book to keep an eye on grammar, spelling and perfectionism in your work, then make this the book you choose.
