Chester Grosvenor and Spa, Eastgate,
Seeking pure, unadulterated luxury? Then the
opulent Chester Grosvenor is a real treat for a weekend escape, if you don’t
mind the shopping street location.
There are a number of
dining options in the hotel, including La Brasserie. However, for the prices, I
expected to be more impressed that I was. The ‘bouillabaise’ fish stew, while
crammed with seafood, tasted bland, but puddings were another matter. Eating
chocolate fondue while sipping a Black Muscat dessert wine was divine and sumptous, just like the surroundings.
The intimate spa is elegantly put together,
boasting a Thermal Suite with herb sauna, themed shower, ice fountain, crystal
steam room, salt grotto and foot baths. It costs £35 for one hour, though hotel
residents pay once for the duration of their stay.
There is no pool on-site (a courtesy
bus is available to take you to one the hotel uses) but this is a minor moan
considering the lavishness of the facilities and delicious Molton Brown
treatments. Half-day spa packages start at £100 with
various overnight breaks starting from £255 for the Solo Spa Break.
