Is the world ready for me unleashed? I
think not. But you can blame Judi Goodwin for the ensuing chaos that might
occur.
Last weekend, in a sleepy
I discovered that even people who have been in the game a while can learn so much more to improve their style and way of working.
For me, I think the course particularly helped with some fine tuning I needed to maintain the creative flow that allows readers to really experience the piece, and adding that extra ‘pizzazz’ to make it more interesting.
To go on this course, I'd say you need to be ready
to get to grips with those underlying emotions that will be the driving force
to your words, as Judi has a ‘no holds barred’ approach when she
teaches it. She expects you to dig deep into those passions and
feelings – because she recognises that this is what you need to do to bring
‘power to the pages’.
An excellent and empathic training style, I
couldn’t fault the supportive way in which Judi tried to encourage all the participants to get the most from their weekend. Her warmth and genuine
desire to help attendees just shone through, and I was very glad to have
been involved.
Whether you’re writing for
business or pleasure, if you’re prepared to
honestly look at the essence within yourself that will truly make your writing
evocative, then this could be for you (and Judi also runs a feature writing course).
And having challenged some of my ‘comfort
zone protectors’ over the two days (i.e. reading out the pieces I’d written
within the group, aloud for all to hear), a day later I went on to climb a rock on a Swiss glacier at 3000m above sea level (a piece of cake after
Judi’s demands to challenge ourselves!). I’m ready for anything.
