I just found this feature on the web that I wrote over a year ago for The Scotsman on Oslo, and didn't even know it was there! It has brought back memories of the trip, and how surprised I was that it was unusually hot for early May when I was in the city.
As well, I remember baulking at the idea of a pre-dinner champagne in the world's most expensive city. I'm not mean when it comes to bubbly normally, and will generally quite happily cough up for a glass, but I couldn't bring myself to summon up the £17 or so it would have cost in the particular restaurant we were in!
We were there 3 days and I was very pleasantly surprised with Oslo - I enjoyed the city far more than I'd anticipated (I don't know why I might have thought otherwise) and just really got into the 'Oslo vibe'. It's actually very relaxed and easy-going, and everyone just seems so, well, sorted!
