Who do I write features for?

Outlets for my work include national newspapers, magazines and online publications, as well as promotional materials for businesses. Since late 2003, I have been regularly freelancing for both UK and US online and print media, and have been full-time as a freelance since May 2005.

Wringing out the Red Arrows

This was a story that I put on the ConnectMedia website, but thought it suited this site also, because, what do you do when your story gets rained on?

Canny journalists may be able to save the day, but it could take some ingenuity. They say don’t work with children or animals, but what about the UK weather? We might set out with the best of intentions to get our page fillers, but there is always the great British thunderstorm to ensure they go soggy.

The thick and thin of it

Writing about diets and the relationship we have with food was a natural development of my journalism career, having spent years obsessing with food and 'watching my weight'.

Particularly, I've done considerable amounts of work for women's online magazine handbag.com. My most recent article on the subject was the one which  resulted in my discovery of Beyond Chocolate, the book that inspired my blog site Chocolate and Beyond. I interviewed one of the book's author's, Sophie Boss, for a feature about society's obsession with being thin. 

My story

Like many others, I didn't start out as a writer - though it was always my childhood dream.

I grew up, and pushed the idea away as silly, continuing to search for a 'real' career. At least, that is, after bumming around for a while travelling across Europe (sleeping on beaches, hitching rides, you get the picture), with a bit of nannying and au-pairing thrown in to keep me fed.
